The VSS office, located on the Hayward campus in the Library Annex building at LI2200, is dedicated to providing services to veterans pursuing their educational goals and applying for benefits. The VSS provides student support services to all CSUEB veteran students and eligible dependents.

The Veteran Benefits Coordinator at AVÀÇ provides advice to veterans, reservists, and eligible dependents who are interested in applying for VA education benefits which may be available to them, or certifying already approved benefits through the VA. Separately, VSS provides guidance to dependents of disabled veterans in applying for the CalVet College Fee Waiver program.
All new students seeking to take advantage of, or apply for any VA education benefits they may be eligible for; or, utilize the CalVet tuition waiver should contact VSS to review the requirements of their degree program, and ensure the proper documentation is completed. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) provides information on obtaining benefits. In most cases, the first step is to complete the V.A. application online at. https://www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply/.
Students seeking to use their available federal VA benefits for study should contact VSS to review their VA benefit type.

This is a state level educational benefit available to eligible dependents who may be entitled to a tuition waiver at any campus of the California State University system, University of California system, or California Community Colleges. To obtain eligibility requirements and assistance in applying for these benefits through the state, please locate your local County Veteran Service Office (CVSO) at the following link and click on your respective county for more information: https://www.calvet.ca.gov/VetServices/Pages/CVSO-Locations.aspx
Approval for benefits under the Cal Vet Fee Waiver program shall be granted on an Academic Year (AY) basis. There shall be no partial year grants of benefits. Applicants must re-apply each year to maintain entitlement. Approvals may be granted only for the current Academic Year, or the immediate upcoming Academic Year. Note that the CalVet tuition waiver does not waive or cover any campus specific fees.

If you have any veterans benefits including the Cal Vet Fee Waiver, your cost of attendance at AVÀÇ is adjusted based on your reduction of fees. In general, your monthly veteran benefits may be counted as a resource in determining your financial aid eligibility. Contact a financial aid counselor at the Office of Financial Aid during your admission process for more information.

A student whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces and died as a result of service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11, 2001 may be eligible to receive the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant. Must be ineligible for a Federal Pell Grant due only to having less financial need than is required to receive Pell funds, be under 24 years old or enrolled in college at least part-time at the time of the parent’s or guardian’s death.
